The Red Thread
The Red Thread is a slow, atmospheric novel about memory, responsibility, and the ethical cost of witnessing. It follows Mara, a reluctant inheritor of a dangerous family practice: mirrors that preserve unfinished lives and let the living cross into other people’s memories. Guided by Rosa’s last instructions and accompanied by Lena — a scholar and fellow witness with secrets of her own — Mara learns to navigate a series of haunted thresholds across town: attics, archives, chapels, shipwrecked decks, orchards, ruined gardens, and underground map rooms. Each site holds a shard of a larger mirror and a fragment of lives lost or damaged by a violent, secret order centered on a man named Silas and the Society that preserves (and at times exploits) these reflective crossings.
