I'm going to tell you where this book ends up, right now, before you buy it: I'm convinced there's a God. Now here's why you should keep reading anyway, especially if you're sure I'm wrong.
I've spent twenty years building and debugging software systems, and that work teaches you one reflex above all others: when somebody says "that was settled years ago, don't look there," you look. So I pointed that reflex at the biggest "settled years ago" our culture has: the God question. Science closed that case. Everybody knows it.
Okay. Show me. Who closed it, when, and what did they actually check?
What I found is a story with dates and names in it, and there's no verdict anywhere in the file. There's a forfeit. And when I examined the actual evidence with the question genuinely open, it wasn't a coin flip. It leaned. It kept leaning.
This book walks you there the way I walked: through the history of computing. A Victorian genius whose calculating machine dismantled the most famous argument against miracles ever written. The mathematician who invented binary as a picture of God creating from nothing. The proof that no system can certify itself. The rocket that exploded because no test was shaped to catch the flaw. You'll pick up six tools from true engineering stories, and then you'll use them on the question everybody stopped asking.
The rules: both sides check their assumptions at the door. Every claim has a receipt at the bottom of the page. The strongest case against my conclusion appears in the main text, written so its own champions could sign it, and one argument against me never gets fully answered, and I say so.
And here's the standing offer: the moment you catch me cheating, close the book.
No sermon. No hand-waving. An engineer's audit of the biggest assumption you ever inherited without testing.
The file's been load-bearing a long time. Let's pull the history.
