Walter Scott’s The Story of our English Bible gives the reader a short review of how the inspired autographs were written by the people the Holy Spirit guided. No direct copies of the autographs have survived, but many reliable copies over many years have, providing us textual confidence that God’s special revelation to man will survive all the wiles of ruthless men. Pay close attention to the second whole paragraph on page 20, where our author gives a concise overview of the autographs.
The second part of this publication is William Huntington’s The Law Established by the Faith of Christ, beginning on page 155. In this work, the author examines the question about what role law has in the life of the believer. Huntington draws out the intent and limitations of law and the need and role of faith; these two are not opposed, each plays a part in revealing the redemptive story God has provided through His written Word. As Paul wrote: But now, apart from the law, God’s righteousness has been revealed — attested by the Law and the Prophets — that is, God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction. (Romans 3:21-22 HCSB).
