Choosing the Right Path
With seventy years of life and forty-five years in my profession, I have seen many young people face significant decisions, sometimes missing out on opportunities due to essential choices, especially those related to their careers.

I have visited many colleges and training centres to help students. Once, I met a young woman named Priya, who hesitated over her course selection form and asked, 'What if I choose the wrong path?' Her family wanted her to study engineering, but she was interested in the arts.

I encouraged her to trust her feelings, and she chose a course that aligned with her passions. These experiences demonstrate how frequently students face difficult choices. Some people think carefully about their options, while others make decisions quickly and later try to justify their choices.

When things go well, they take credit; when things do not work out, they often blame other people or situations, or past choices, but usually avoid taking responsibility for their mistakes. The first major decision for most students comes when they choose subjects after eighth grade.

Students usually fall into three groups: Some students spot their goals early and chase them with determination. Others find their ambitions overshadowed by parents’ decisions. Many feel lost, with little guidance, as family expectations, social pressures, and job trends swirl around them.

Choosing a career can feel overwhelming due to pressure from family, society, and the job market. Start by acknowledging these emotions; they're familiar to many.
Competitive exams in India often push students toward set careers, but true success comes from pursuing what’s meaningful to you, whether that’s financial stability, service, or passion. Ask yourself what work gives you satisfaction, and use those answers to make choices with confidence and clarity.
