Laura starts counting, and by counting she finds four people willing to believe her: Marco, who talks too much; Sofia, who would solve a robbery by filling in a form; Carlo, who always stands near the exit; Lisa, who keeps time. Together they work out that the number isn’t rising at random, that in this school a class stopped existing in 1944 without anyone noticing, and that the building has a precise way of taking people.

It starts with the name.

In October a fifth-year boy disappears. Nobody connects it to anything. And the seconds keep rising.
