The Hermit of Kailash: The Extraordinary Life of Sadhu Sundar Singh - Softcover

Inhaltsangabe

A 318-year-old hermit. A lost cave. A mystery that has endured for more than a century.

In the remote Himalayan region of Kailash, Sadhu Sundar Singh, one of India's best-known Christian mystics and evangelists, reported an extraordinary encounter with an ancient Christian hermit known as the Maharishi.

The hermit reportedly claimed to have lived for 318 years.

He told Sundar Singh that he had been born centuries earlier, had spent much of his life in prayer and solitude, and had encountered Christianity long before Sundar's own generation. He lived far from towns and churches, yet spoke of Christ and possessed a Greek copy of the Gospels.

Was the Maharishi really 318 years old?

Who was this mysterious Christian hermit?

How could a Christian tradition have survived for centuries in the remote Himalayas?

And what exactly happened when Sundar Singh encountered him?

The Hermit of Kailash explores one of the strangest and least understood episodes in the life of Sadhu Sundar Singh. Drawing on early biographies, contemporary accounts, Sundar Singh's own writings and later historical research, this book separates what was actually reported from what later generations added to the story.

It also follows the remarkable life of Sundar Singh himself: his childhood in Punjab, his dramatic conversion to Christ, his decision to become a barefoot Christian sadhu, his dangerous journeys through Tibet, his ministry across India and the West, and his final mysterious journey towards Tibet in 1929.

The story is not simply about a mysterious old man in the mountains. It is about a young man who gave up comfort, reputation and security to follow Christ wherever he believed he was being led.

Everyone wanted to know whether the Maharishi was real. Sundar Singh wanted people to know whether Christ was real.

The mystery of the Maharishi remains unresolved. But the extraordinary life and faith of Sadhu Sundar Singh remain a story worth remembering.

The Hermit of Kailash is a journey into faith, mystery, Himalayan legend and the remarkable life of one of India's most unusual Christian witnesses.
