D L MOODY: THE SHOE SALESMAN WHO SHOOK THE WORLD: Faith That Changed the World - Softcover

Inhaltsangabe

What can God do with an ordinary person?

Dwight Lyman Moody began life as a poor boy with little formal education. He became a shoe salesman in Chicago, but his ambitions soon changed when he discovered a deeper purpose: reaching people with the message of Jesus Christ.

From crowded city streets and Sunday schools to Civil War camps, revival meetings and packed halls in Britain, Moody's influence grew far beyond anything he could have imagined. Alongside the gifted singer and evangelist Ira D. Sankey, he became one of the most influential evangelists of the nineteenth century.

But behind the great crowds was a man who cared deeply about individual people—a child, a dying soldier, a struggling family, a prisoner or someone who simply needed to hear that God had not forgotten them.

D. L. Moody: The Shoe Salesman Who Shook the World tells the remarkable story of a man who was not highly educated, wealthy or naturally impressive by the standards of his time. Yet through prayer, perseverance and wholehearted obedience, his life became a powerful instrument for the Gospel.

This illustrated biography explores Moody's conversion, his early work among children, the Great Chicago Fire, his partnership with Ira D. Sankey, the great revival meetings in America and Britain, his passion for evangelism, his work in education, and the extraordinary stories that surrounded his ministry.

It is also a story about something much bigger than one evangelist:

What happens when an ordinary person becomes completely available to God?

For readers interested in Christian history, revival, evangelism, missionary biographies and the lives of men and women who have shaped the Christian faith, Moody's story remains both challenging and deeply inspiring.
