Stay on the Line: A Gripping Psychological Serial Killer Thriller - Softcover

Inhaltsangabe

Every caller stayed on the line until help arrived. Every caller was the same man.

Dana Achterberg hears what other people miss. As a forensic audio examiner, she has spent fourteen years in a soundproofed basement lab, pulling the truth out of other people's worst moments.

Then a routine civil case puts a 911 call on her bench. A neighbor is counting chest compressions for an elderly woman. He is calm and helpful, and he is not out of breath. Behind his voice there is no refrigerator hum, no furnace, no sound of a house at all. Someone made that kitchen silent before he picked up the phone.

Dana pulls the records. Nine calls in six years, each from a different helpful stranger with a different accent: a neighbor, a delivery driver, a home health aide. Each one stayed on the line until the sirens were close, then vanished. Every death was signed off as an accident.

It is one man. He sits with the dying, and he records them.

Nobody believes an ear. Her director wants the report buried, and the police already have a suspect. And the killer has started calling Dana at home, because he was listening the summer she was sixteen, when she made a 911 call of her own and told a lie that has shaped her life ever since.

He doesn't want to silence her. He wants her to listen.

To stop him, Dana will have to play the one recording she has never been able to hear: her own.

Stay on the Line is a dark, slow-burning psychological thriller of forensic detail and cat-and-mouse suspense, with a killer you will hear long after the last page.
