Participants from 41 countries contributed the papers of this two-volume proceedings of the 3rd International International Society for Analysis, Applications, and Computation (ISAAC) Congress held in August 2001 in Berlin, Germany. The editors, Begehr (Freie U. Berlin, Germany), Robert Pertsch Gilbert (U. of Delaware, US), and Man Wah Wong (York U., Canada), have included a lengthy introduction describing the state of research and the sessions and papers of the Congress. The papers are grouped according to major topic, including function spaces and fractional calculus, geometric function theory, complex function spaces, Clifford analysis, octonions, nonlinear potential theory, complex and functional analytical methods in PDEs, and qualitative properties of solutions of hyperbolic and Schrödinger equations. Eleven papers are included on direct and inverse scattering and inverse problems. Each paper includes an abstract and list of references. The volumes are not indexed.
