"Truthfully, I am that kind to wonder what anyone would find appealing about nursing a wound or storing regrets in some treasure chest. Time and emotion are a little too valuable to be wasted on thoughts or deeds that are centred around the irreversible.
So yes! I take pride in breaking record time, every moment reality asks of me to move on and get over people or events that bring regret.Being human however, there is this one move I made in 2003 that, I have fought the hardest to keep away from my thoughts because it cost me 12years of my prime as a man. From age 28 - 40 I tied too much potential up working a 9 - 5.
The sheer thought of what some of the world's greatest men have achieved in that age range could snatch sleep off me just like that.So my regret isn't taking the job but "wasting my prime" at it, Time meant for chasing my personal dreams. I thought.
I shared my pain with an older friend who laid one real life example on me and poof! went my last ever worry about wasting my prime. It was the example of Samuel L Jackson. He was caught in a web of small non-speaking roles as an actor until "Coming to America" in 1988 where he got a few minutes to speak. Born on Dec 1, 1948, Samuel L. Jackson was 40 years old in that movie. His 1st role was gotten in 1972 while he was 24. So 24-40 seemed like a wasted period but not to his good friend whom he met in 1981, Morgan Freeman. Freeman told him not to give because he saw in him a great actor. Squeezing Samuel's story into a nutshell, In 1994, he had landed a role in the cult hit, Pulp Fiction. By the age of 63, he had appeared in more than 100 films & in 2011 he was named the highest grossing actor of all time with $7.1billion. Samuel L Jackson has the most featured face in Hollywood. Talk about being sort after. Like the biblical Joseph who went to jail at 17 and came out at 30. Seemingly having lost 13 years of his prime in chains, only to be released and made the second most powerful man in the world, you too my dear, cannot define your prime with the peak of youthful energy. Prime comes to us all at different times. Like grains of corn under the same degree of pressure called life, we still could never pop at the same time.
So please no more worries or being tempted to feel bad about what may seem like lost years. They were a necessary build up to the awaited exaltation, still within your reach. There are 99 more lights bulbs in this book that await you to turn them on. Go on in now and enjoy the fresh new perspective to life with every page that you flip. Sorry I meant to say, every switch you hit.
