Sayings, proverbs or idioms are short expressions that tell stories all by themselves. Jamaica, as the country where out of many countries one people reside, has embraced and adopted along with the many non-natives, their sayings and proverbs. We therefore have a rich heritage to which we have added our own sayings.
As We Would Say Back Home explores many of these sayings and provide an insight into their meanings. Some philosophers would say the author does a disservice as great sayings can and tend to mean different things to different people - and they are right. Great sayings also tend to have universal meanings, and these the author has sought to share.
