Over the last thirty-five years Rod Milgate has established his reputation as a prominent Australian painter. An early recipient of the prestigious Harkness Fellowship Award, Milgate developed a distinctive style that was both reflective and philosophical and at times explored terrain that was profoundly spiritual. His art and his life have remained complicated, and provide the subtext of his creative and everyday existence - his painting reflects his view that all aspects of life are essentially interrelated.
In more recent years Milgate has worked as a university professor as well as continuing with his painting, but he made a living in earlier times as a nightclub singer, as a television newsreader and as an actor. He is also a distinguished poet and playwright.
Milgate has won the Blake Prize for Religious Art three times and has held more than forty solo exhibitions. This book is the first major study of Rod Milgate's artistic influences and achievements, and summarises the career so far of one of Australia's most respected painters.
