Douglas Hall, Professor Emeritus of History, has had a long and distinguished career at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, in the Departments of Economics (1959-61) and History (1961-81). He retired in 1981. Among his many publications are Free Jamaica 1838-1865 (1959); Five of the Leewards 1834-1870 (1971); In Miserable Slavery: Thomas Thistlewood in Jamaica, 1750-86 (1989); and Grace, Kennedy and Company Ltd. A Story of Jamaican Enterprise (1993).
