Inhaltsangabe

With expanding globalization, international enterprises exercise a growing influence on the culture of corporations in countries where they operate. Several frameworks are available for comparing both country and organizational cultures in a quantitative manner. Yet until now, the paradigm has been that these two types of culture need to be measured independently, presenting a major obstacle to the comparison of work cultures internationally. In this book, Paul Melessen develops a framework that incorporates multilevel modeling to bridge the gap between analyses of these two types of culture. Building upon and enriching existing theory, Melessen compares fifteen multinational corporations to demonstrate how organizational cultures differ from national cultures?and how they can be analyzed, described, and managed.

With expanding globalisation, international enterprises exercise a growing influence on work culture in countries where they operate. Several dimensional frameworks exist to compare country cultures in a quantitative manner. The same is true for organisational cultures. Yet, until now, the paradigm has been that the two types of culture need to be measured by different frameworks. For years, this paradigm has been an obstacle for comparing work cultures internationally. In this book, a dimensional framework is presented that bridges the gap between the two types of culture. It builds on existing frameworks - in particular, the VSM and OCM frameworks presented by Geert Hofstede - to compare fifteen multinational corporations and subsequently draw several interesting conclusions. Appropriately titled Countries, Corporations and Cultures, the book develops the "Multilevel Culture" (MLC) framework with a procedure called MCMC multilevel modelling. Hence the subtitle A multilevel approach.
