This Book has seven stories- illustrating science and some scientific concepts- migration of birds in a V-formation, foraging for food by ants, flowering of trees and importance of sunlight for this, ripening of fruits, Newton’s laws of motion, self-cleaning properties of lotus leaves, and the fact that all of us belong to one family- with origins in Africa.Each one of these is a vast topic and an enormous amount of literature is available on each one of these. Every effort is made to keep the narrative simple, so that even a young child can follow it.If these efforts succeed in keeping the fire of scientific curiosity in children roaring I will consider my efforts successful.I am grateful to my children Richa Joshi and Mehul Srivastava, son-in-law Suraj Joshi, and wife Rekha Srivastava for reading these stories in the draft form and for providing valuable inputs for improvements. My colleague Dr Rupa Chatterjee not only read the stories and provided valuable inputs for improvements, she also helped me choose illustrations.
