China currently holds the top position globally, producing approximately 237 million tons of vegetables annually. In India, the production of vegetables during the year 2009-10 amounted to around 90 million tons.

Overuse of pesticides can lead to resistance in pests and diseases, and can also harm natural enemies that provide biological control.
