An address to British females on the moral management of pregnancy and labour, and some cursory observations on medical deportment : Suggested by the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales: with a vindication of Her Royal Highness's physicians, Sir Richard Croft, Dr. Baillie, and Dr. Sims

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A hush fell over Britain in the wake of a royal tragedy, as the nation mourned the loss of Princess Charlotte Augusta and questioned the very foundations of maternal care. Against this charged backdrop, a physician's voice emerges-measured, candid, and intent on guiding British women through the delicate challenges of pregnancy and labour. Drawing from the anxieties and hopes of early nineteenth-century society, this work delves into the moral management of pregnancy, weaving together practical childbirth guidance with reflections on medical ethics that resonate beyond its era. The narrative unfolds at the intersection of private experience and public scrutiny, inviting readers into the world of British obstetrics history, where the stakes of maternal health are heightened by both personal and national consequence. With a steady hand, the author addresses not only the physical realities of pregnancy and labour care, but also the emotional and ethical responsibilities borne by expectant mothers and their physicians. The text stands as both a compassionate source of pregnancy advice for women and a sober commentary on the medical deportment expected in moments of crisis, particularly when the lives of the royal family are in the balance. What distinguishes this volume is its rare blend of intimate counsel and public vindication, as it defends the reputations of Sir Richard Croft, Dr. Baillie, and Dr. Sims-figures whose decisions became entwined with the fate of a nation. Its observations on historical medical practices and the shifting expectations of medical professionals offer a poignant glimpse into the complexities of early 19th century medicine.
