Discourse on the Method is a philosophical and autobiographical treatise published by René Descartes in 1637. Discourse on the Method is one of the most influential works in the history of modern philosophy, and important to the development of natural sciences.

Inside this classic work, you will explore:

• Part I & II: A critique of conventional education and the introduction of four fundamental rules for logical reasoning and scientific inquiry.
• Part III: A practical, provisional moral code to live by while radically questioning one's beliefs.
• Part IV: The famous metaphysical proof for the existence of God and the separation of the human soul from the body.
• Part V & VI: Early modern explorations into physics, the beating of the heart, animal mechanics, and the future of scientific advancement.

Meditations on First Philosophy is a philosophical treatise by René Descartes first published in 1641. The book is made up of six meditations, in which Descartes first discards all belief in things that are not absolutely certain, and then tries to establish what can be known for sure. He wrote the meditations as if he had meditated for six days: each meditation refers to the last one as yesterday. (In fact, Descartes began work on the Meditations in 1639.)

Inside this classic work, you will explore:

• Radical Doubt: How stripping away uncertain assumptions creates a secure foundation for truth.
• The Nature of the Self: Proving the existence of the thinking mind as distinct from the physical body.
• The Existence of God: Philosophical and causal arguments demonstrating the reality of a supreme being.
• Mind-Body Dualism: The profound separation and interaction between the human soul and material things.
