The region, despite its vast resources, is lacking behind in all spheres of economic development from the national averages. In this region, Globalization is being challenged to evolve into a new conception of the good life, congenial to the visions of education for all, health for all, food for all, justice and human rights for all with protections of life and cultures of peoples.
