Emerging as one of the great concerns of the workplace today, violence at work has become a priority issue for many governments, trade unions and employers. This study seeks to mirror the state of transition in the field. It offers cases and examples of successful responses to the problem of violence at work and examines surveys and studies being carried out on the topic. Violent behaviour at work can take many forms such as bullying, intimidation, threats, ostracism and physical attacks. This text shows how this violence stems from a combination of social, economic, organizational and cultural forces that transcends boundaries of country, occupation and workplace setting. Through the analysis of data, the study traces patterns and trends in violence at work. It cites areas and companies most affected, looks at vulnerable situations and groups, and outlines the cost of violence to the community and the workplace as a whole.
