The comfort unit: developed as part of a climate adaptive skin - Softcover

The Comfort Unit is part of a new generation of facades that takes a different approach to both climate control an user comfort perception. It is developed as part of a Climate Adaptive Skin, where building services are integrated into the façade itself at single office scale, making the office adjacent to the façade independent of centralised HVAC systems and the indoor environment optimally adjustable by the user.
This book describes the research process that started with the question 'In what way would a façade be able to create a comfortable indoor office environment, using only the indoor and outdoor environments as its energy sources?'
Through the designing, simulating and testing of a new ventilation unit that includes passive cooling and heating, the answer is found, enabling low energy climate control, while providing more comfort to the user.
Over de auteur:
Bas Hasselaar (Gouda, 1979) begon met studeren aan de Faculteit Bouwkunde - Bouwtechnologie aan de Technische Universiteit Delft in 1997. In 2002 onderbrak hij zijn studie om in Sydney - Australië de Master-opleiding Sustainable Development aan de Faculty of the Built Environment van de University of New South Wales te gaan studeren. Na het behalen van zijn bul pakte hij in 2003 zijn oude studie in Delft weer op om deze in 2004 met Eervolle Vermelding af te ronden.
Na zijn afstuderen werkte hij als onderzoeker aan de Faculteit Bouwkunde van de Technische Universiteit Delft, waarbij hij zich voornamelijk verdiepte in decentrale sanitatie en hergebruik (DESAH). In 2006 startte hij een promotieonderzoek naar de mogelijkheid om een (kantoor)ruimte energieneutraal te klimatiseren, wat in juni 2013 is afgerond. Sinds 2011 werkt hij als projectmanager bij SBRCURnet.
