The Sa'dan Toraja live in the highlands of South Sulawesi (South Celebes) in Indonesia. Their daring and elegant houses and rice barns can claim a place among the world's most impress} forms of vernacular architecture. These buildings on stilts, held together by pure joinery wjthout a single nail, and often decorated from foundation to roof peak, are renowned throughout Indonesia and in recent times among tourists from all over the world.
