19. Seek out the dialogue

The times of exclusively broadcasting in communication have definitively come to an end. Communication was actually always about a two-way stream, but we still like to convince others of our opinion. That time has gone. Your stakeholders do not just want to be informed, but wish to be actively involved. They have an opinion and wish to express their view on how you operate as a person or organisation. Therefore, you need to be prepared for that. Because if you ignore this desire, you will end up facing some difficulties. For your communica- tion, use channels that enable the dialogue. Social media such as Facebook and Twitter are excellent vehicles for this. The same goes for blogs. Do not fear the responses and adversity. Instead, enter the discussion with an open attitude. That will result in understanding and respect from the outside world. Moreover, the dialogue will give you insight into what is going on in the world around you, which will allow you to take that into account.
