They were part of a bequest or are exhibited within a public foun- dation, like that of Baron Thyssen in Madrid, the Frick Collection in New York, or else those of Wal- lace or of Dulwich in London. Doctor Rau's col- lection is the only one of such quality and, prob- ably, the last one not available to the public. So Doe- tor Rau gives us a very fine present indeed, today, by agreeing to show a representative part of his col- lection in public.
