His 1977 TV mini-series Jesus of Nazareth is still shown on Easter weekend around the world. In November 2004 he was awarded an honorary knighthood by the UK. A member of the Italian senate since 1996, he is also an opera director, designer and producer. Journalist and film critic PAOLO D'AGOSTINI has served on the screening committee of the Venice Film Festival. He has been a member of many film festival judging panels.
