The Espacio AV in collaboration with the estate of Francesca Woodman (1958 Denver-1981 New York), presents an exhibition which will be the second opportunity in Spain to see the work of this artist now recognised as a pioneer in her work dealing with problems of identity, gender and the female image. With a marked autobiographical character, Woodman s photographs show her in melancholy settings, rooms in which the artist portrays solitude, oblivion and the passing of time.Biografía del autor:
Francesca Woodman died in 1981 at the age of twenty-three, closing a brief career of extraordinary intensity. Her work was not destined to produce a spectacle, but to express intimacy, despair, fear and anguish, questioning the absence of the body. All her work shows an anxiety to camouflage herself, to disappear and get lost in scenes charged with solitude that at the same time shine surrounded with an aura: the light of sunset, of the farewell, of things coming to an end. In the majority of her photographs, the artist appears, in shadow, covering herself with painted wallpaper, smeared with mud, hiding her face, camouflaged as part of the furniture, smudged and out of focus.
