Ms Berit Liland (born in 1943 in Bergen, Norway) is a former Norwegian Merchant Navy radio officer. After having travelled several times with the Hurtigruten coastal steamer, she decided that there was much more to be learnt about the culture, history, nature and legends of the Norwegian coast, and spent four years researching the Hurtigruten route before publishing this book.
