Norland In 1953 a young candidate, fresh from his graduation at Bergen school of business in Norway, arrived at HAMBROS BANK in the City of London to become a trainee. It was the start of a remarkable career. In his autobiography OTTO R. NORLAND (now 91) tells the story of how he rose to the top as managing director and partner in the renowned merchant bank. Norland became Hambros’ man in dealing with industrialists, shipowners and politicians throughout the world. The book reveals insights into the sometimes surprising decision processes and the many intriguing personalities involved in great business operations. After the Hambros years, Norland established a successful consultant firm in the City. He also was chairman in Alcoa Great Britain and he represented the UK in EU committees for harmonisation of European banking law. Still a Norwegian citizen, Norland lives in London.
