Architecture of Manasara V. 4 (Manasara Series) is the fourth read in the Manasara series, which is regarded as a treasure house for information on town - planning, sculpture and architecture in ancient India in this book, Sanskrit texts collated from as many as 11 manuscripts have been related in English with an attempt by the author, Prasanna Kumar Acharya, to retain the essence of each Sanskrit text to the maximum extent possible.
Essentially, this book discusses the various aspects of architecture as was practised and taught by the builders of ancient India. Indeed, these are the famed builders whose works on stone can still be witnessed across India today.
In particular, this text lays emphasis on the extent to which detailed craftsmanship was carried out in the architecture and sculptures of ancient India. Not only does the book capture the detailing done by the ancient Indian builders, but it also takes care not to miss a single detail pertaining to this topic. Spanning as many as 71 topics with an index at the end of it all, this treatise discusses everything that here is to know about architecture and sculpture as was practised in ancient India.
Some of the topics covered include choice of the site, the unit of measurement, soil ysis, strength of building materials, component proportion to be used and town planning. Other topics covered are designing of single and multi - storeyed houses, furniture, ornaments and sculptures such as those of the lion, Garuda, bull, goose and others to be used in houses.
