Throughout this section there are also Anderson’s evocative and immensely insightful profiles of the various creatures that inhabit the jungles of India: the wild dog, the wild boar, the sloth bear, the hyena, the tiger, the panther and the elephant.

The Black Panther of Sivanipalli

In this, Anderson’s iconic story, the author stalks a jet-black panther in a dark cave, and has an unfortunate encounter with an angry swarm of bees. And, in another tale in this section, Anderson struggles to kill a man-eating panther with unusual habits in the hills of Yellagiri.
