When the House Grows Taller is a literary nonfiction on marriage, companionship and the quiet architecture of everyday life. Told through the sustained metaphor of a house, it explores how relationships are shaped not by dramatic moments but by the unnoticed rhythms of ordinary living-shared routines, familiar objects, changing responsibilities and the passage of time.
Across sixteen interconnected chapters, the house gradually becomes more than a place to live. It becomes a witness to love, conflict, repair, growth and acceptance. Cups, keys, dining tables, mirrors, gardens and doorways quietly reveal the psychology of intimacy and the ways two lives slowly become one shared life.
Reflective rather than prescriptive, the book invites readers to look more closely at the ordinary moments that often pass unnoticed, discovering within them the enduring foundations of companionship.

Dr. Rajeev Sharma is a former Police officer whose career has spanned public service, leadership, security, disaster management and conflict resolution. Over several decades, his work brought him into close contact with people navigating moments of crisis, reconciliation and personal transformation. Trained as a physician before entering public service, he combines an understanding of human behaviour with years of practical experience in mediation, law enforcement and institutional leadership. When the House Grows Taller is his first literary work on relationships. Rather than offering advice, the book explores how ordinary acts, shared routines and the quiet passage of time gradually shape a marriage. He lives in Gurugram, India.
