This text presents the applications of soil dynamics and earthquake engineering for seismic-resistant design of foundations and earth-retaining structures. It is a sequel to the author's book entitled Fundamentals of Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering that presents the basic principles, whereas advanced topics have been covered in this text. The book discusses topics such as the emerging challenges to seismic-resistant foundations and other soil-retaining structures, the practical issues of soil investigations for a specific project, the basic principles of vibrations along with their practical applications to civil engineering structures, the dynamic stability of elastic systems, the dynamic response to bomb blast loading and their effect on foundations and sub-structures, the dynamics of beam on elastic foundations, and the dynamics of foundations. This textbook is essentially meant for undergraduate students in Civil Engineering and also covers the postgraduate course in Earthquake Engineering. The book will also be helpful as a ready reference for design and consulting engineers.

Biografía del autor

Bharat Bhushan Prasad, (Ph.D.), is Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology, Greater Noida. Earlier, he served as Director in the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Bihar and also as Professor of Civil Engineering at Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology, Bihar. Dr. Prasad graduated in Civil Engineering in 1966 winning Gold Medal of Patna University. He secured his M. Tech. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975 and Ph.D. degree in 1987. Apart from 30 years' experience in teaching and research, he has worked as a renowned consultant in the field of geotechnical engineering. Dr. Prasad has taught Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering to senior undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has been associated with several earthquake resistant designs and construction of structures. He has guided several research scholars in Ph.D. programmes. Besides 21 publications to his credit in international journals/symposiums, he was also awarded the Gold Medal in 1979 by the Indian Geotechnical Society, for the best research paper in the field of soil dynamics.
