Inhaltsangabe

This is a long novel in letter style published by French writer Laclos in 1782. It was a big hit when it came out, creating much of a stir in the society. The story describes the corrupt regime and interpersonal relationships of the upper class on the eve of the French Revolution, reveals the rioted, shameless and befuddled life of the ruling class of the time, depicts the path of the degeneration and dissolution of several generations. The love games, chasing for the opposite sex and seduction portrayed in this book is fraught with various skills for conquering and wining love. Its abundant connotation is not second to The Art of Love, the precious classic of Ovid in ancient Roma. This novel has been adapted into stage, screen and TV shows for more than ten times.
