An Elementary Course in Scientific Chinese, a series consisting of five books, Listening and Speaking (volumes I and II), Reading Comprehension (volumes I and II) and Listening Comprehension, has been tailored for foreign students coming to China to study in the various fields within science and technology. The whole series has a vocabulary of over 3,900 words, 136 commonly used grammar items and 20 functional-notional items, and will enable students to acquire the basics of language to learn science and technology within a short period of time. Reading Comprehension (Volume I) consisting of 30 lessons, aims to improve students' reading comprehension and requires approximately 60 class hours to complete.
