Industrial firefighting is performed in complex and high-risk environments where effective performance depends not only on physical fitness and technical skills but also on cognitive capabilities. This book examines the role of cognitive factors in the operational performance of industrial firefighters using an integrated DEMATEL-ANP-SEM approach. The study was conducted among 141 industrial firefighters in the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, Iran. DEMATEL and ANP were used to identify causal relationships and prioritize cognitive performance-shaping factors, while Structural Equation Modeling was applied to validate their relationships with operational performance. Situation awareness, risk perception, and attention were identified as the three highest-priority factors. All three showed significant positive associations with operational performance, with standardized coefficients of ß=0.46, ß=0.38, and ß=0.31, respectively. The findings highlight the importance of cognitive capabilities in firefighter performance assessment, competency evaluation, and training.
