Naive, trusting Albert finally has all his illusions shattered as the Count admits that everything he has done and said has been for the sake of vengeance. Just like a master chess player, the Count positions his pieces to attack, setting traps and predicting every move. Everyone is a pawn for the Count to achieve his goal...and no sacrifice is too large: Haidee, Andrea, and even the Count's own humanity. At the same time, Albert's quickly losing everything in Paris: friends and family are disappearing and his nobility is stripped from him.
