Inhaltsangabe

This book examines the effect of pension schemes on the socioeconomic development of retirees in Nigeria, focusing on pensioners in North-Central Nigeria, particularly Plateau State. The study investigates how pension programmes influence retirees’ welfare, livelihood, and overall well-being after retirement. A descriptive research design was adopted, and primary data were collected through questionnaires administered to pensioners and selected civil servants. Data were analyzed using statistical tools such as correlation analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and regression techniques. The findings show that pension schemes significantly improve the socioeconomic well-being of retirees by providing financial support and enhancing their standard of living. However, challenges such as delays in pension payments, weak compliance with pension regulations, and administrative inefficiencies reduce the positive impact of pension benefits. The study concludes that timely payment of benefits, better compliance with pension laws, and stronger monitoring of pension funds are essential to improve retirees’ welfare in Nigeria.
