Swimming has gained prominence as a gerontological sport, both in events in Amazonas and in events in other states of Brazil. This is due to the increase in tourism among this age group, as a result of lower ticket prices and increased free time. As for the relevance of this work to the community in general, we believe that its contribution will emerge in the results, discussions and conclusions in the sense of offering subsidies to verify the contribution of a process of teaching and learning swimming for the elderly, aiming at the application of this same process or its use as support. We consider that the meaning attributed by the elderly to the process of learning to swim was positive, highlighting swimming at the outset as one of the best sports for the age group surveyed, which would reduce body pain and lead to better physical conditioning, as well as a willingness to learn to swim.
