Many athletes use foam rolling (FR) as a means of recovery after exercise or as a way to improve flexibility. While the effect of FR on flexibility has been extensively researched, there are still few studies that examine the potential for improving physical performance through the use of FR. The first part of this book describes the mechanisms of action of the fascia roller and its effective areas of application. The second part contains a controlled, randomised study that investigates whether self-treatment of the fasciae of the lower extremities using an FR has an acute effect on physical performance in volleyball players.
