This book explores in detail the different facets of statistical analysis in the biomedical sciences. It begins with a few statistical basics, explaining some basic biostatistical terminology. He then moves on to univariate analysis, to describe and summarize individual data; bivariate and multivariate analysis, to study relationships between several variables, with emphasis on the choice of appropriate statistical tests; logistic regression models; linear regression and survival analysis. Particular attention is paid to the specifics of biostatistics, including the development of clinical scores, the determination of reference intervals for quantitative diagnostic tests, and performance measures for diagnostic tests. The book closes with a summary of study types and the analyses appropriate for each.
