This work analyses the effects of meaning contained in the statements of subjects from Maranhão, immigrants to Goiás, students at a municipal school in Goiânia, in the Youth and Adult Education modality. The aim of this study is to seek the contributions of Discourse Analysis (DA) and Psychoanalysis, verifying the critical addition of these theories, in order to weave an analysis of the immigrant subject in Goiás. To this end, the work is divided into two chapters: the first, of a theoretical nature, studies the concept of the subject in DA and Psychoanalysis; the second, in turn, presents the methodology and analyses of the statements from Maranhão collected in the field, at school. Thus, the analysis of the immigrant subject does not result in a total clarification of immigration or a ‘typical’ understanding of Maranhão, but rather exposes the slippage of signifiers, which makes it impossible to completely erase reminiscences, like a palimpsest.
