Coccidiosis is usually an acute invasion and destruction of intestinal mucosa by protozoa of the genera Emeria or Isospora. Clinical signs include diarrhea, fever, inappetence, weight loss, emaciation, and in extreme cases, death. However, many infections are subclinical.
