Agriculture is the source of livelihood of majority Indians and it also has a great impact on economy of the country. In dry areas or when a farmer is not aware of how to use water when there is too much of water storage or when there is no water storage, irrigation becomes tedious. Wireless sensor networks and their application for precision agriculture is an automated irrigation system used to enhance the use of water for agricultural crops. A gateway unit manages the information related to sensors which triggers the actuators, and data is transmitted using GSM modem.A software application was developed by predetermining the threshold values of soil moisture, temperature and water level that was programmed into an ARM controller.
