Curcuma angustifolia roxb. commonly known as tikhur in India. It is traditionally recognised as medicinal plant and also contain starch in its rhizomes. The book discussed about the Indigenous processing of tikhur for the extraction of starch traditionally done by forest tribal villagers of Bastar, Chhattisgarh and their characteristic features. The plant rhizomes are popular now days due to its distinct characteristics and medicinal values such as rich in starch, non irritating diet for patients suffering from specific chronic ailments, recovering from fevers or experience irritations of the gastrointestinal tract, the lungs or the excretory system. It is also used in the primary ingredient in pharmaceutical pills, cakes, fruit preservatives, biscuits and puddings etc. The knowledge would help researchers, scientists and development workers in adding value of the indigenous knowledge for sustainable development.

Soumitra Tiwari has published fifteen research articles in various international journals.
