The propose of this book is to determine the effective ground motion characteristics and aftershock effects on building damage. For this aim, several important parameters such as PGA, PGV, PGD, PGA/PGV, PGA/PGD, PGV/PGD, dominate frequency, effective time duration, fault line distance of the earthquake and etc, were considered. 200 ground motion records with various moment magnitudes (5.2 ¿ M ¿ 8.3) and different source-to-site distances were selected from the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center. For nonlinear time history analysis, IDARC-2D V7.0 software was applied and the amount of damages for R/C models were obtained based on Park & Ang damage index. Also the aftershock effect was assessed and discussed.

Ali Kia é Doutor em Filosofia em Engenharia Estrutural e Sísmica, a sua investigação científica centra-se na identificação de parâmetros de movimento sísmico do solo e os seus efeitos nos danos dos edifícios. Além disso, Ali Kia, Reza Kia e Amin Bai são membros académicos do Instituto Golestan de Ensino Superior no Irão.
