The book provides information on habitat utilization pattern of vulnerable Indian Skimmer along the Mahanadi River in Odisha, eastern India during breeding season. A significant variation was observed between the habitat use pattern of India Skimmer between breeding and non-breeding season. During non breeding season, the birds used large rivers and lakes for foraging. However, during breeding season they preferred to congregate at isolated sandy Island for breeding and nesting. Therefore protection and conservation of these breeding habitats deserve the priority for conservation of this globally threatened bid.

Tuhinansu Kar is studying the breeding ecology and habitat use pattern of Indian Skimmer and other associated waterbirds. Subrat Debata is a wildlife researcher with special interest on small mammals and waterbirds. Currently, he is studying the breeding ecology of threatened waterbirds.
