Inhaltsangabe

Vertical expansion is taking place nowadays since the horizontal expansion has limited scope. Dynamic wind analysis is very important for such high rise buildings. Many damping systems have been used for the purpose. Though many systems have confirmed their effectiveness in enhancing the dynamic behavior of structures, modification of these systems to improve the performance of the structure and the system itself, is essential. In addition, it is uneconomical to provide dampers in all storeys of tall buildings. Hence, new techniques of optimal positioning of the control systems in a structure to achieve economy are necessary. Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is one such control device. A mass-stiffness-damping system, tuned with the primary mode of the structure, used to reduce the structure’s response is termed as a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). Tuned mass dampers placed in skyscrapers show huge deflections and accelerations as they absorb a lot of the energy from the main structure. The responses of these TMDs need to be controlled with some additional dampers to keep their motion in check.
