Fashion shows are major media events, social rituals and social statements. The publication accompanies the exhibition ‘Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show’, at the Vitra Design Museum, which dedicated a major exhibition to the fashion show phenomenon. Richly illustrated the book is conceived as an encyclopedic A to Z and sheds light on the fashion show phenomenon and its history in all its facets, from body images to performance, from posing to vogueing. Through texts and interviews, experts and protagonists from the fashion world share their insights. The publication brings together iconic examples from fashion houses such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Martin Margiela, Prada, Paco Rabanne, Viktor & Rolf, Louis Vuitton, Yohji Yamamoto, and others, from its early forms around 1900 to the present day. Contributors include Jochen Eisenbrand, Katharina Krawczyk, Barbara Vinken, Carla Sozzani, Caroline Evans, Atlas of Shows, Jens Balzer, Valerie Steele, and Vesna Kontere McQuillan. In addition there are also interviews with Cathy Horyn, Małgosia Bela, Lucien Pagès, and Inge Grognard.
