Like many others, I was intrigued by the work of J. Rogers and E.J. Hollingsworth on the organizational factors contributing to radical innovations in science. This book offers the essence of their life-long work on the links between organization and scientific breakthroughs. It should be read by anyone interested in setting up the right conditions for a creative scientific work environment.

This major study of scientific creativity and development brings together in a highly innovative manner social science concepts and empirical materials. This is of course a major area of interest to scientists, social researchers, and policymakers. The Hollingsworth authors identify and elaborate systemic, institutional, and psychological factors to explain differential rates of innovation and development among individual scientists and research groups.
