This monograph is a comprehensive survey of Los Carpinteros’ work since 2003, their most critically acclaimed period. Since their first collaborations, which focused on the traditions of craftsmanship and the colonial architecture of Cuba, as well as the subversion of the craftsman and the artist, Los Carpinteros’ installations, sculptures and watercolour paintings of have explored the political potential of art. In their more recent works, they transform simple, everyday objects (such as beds, loudspeakers and coffee machines) in dreamlike and associative ways, cracking open the ambiguities of reality and producing moments of absurdity and humour.Seit ihren frühen Arbeiten, in denen sich Los Carpinteros mit Traditionen des Handwerks und der Kolonialarchitektur Kubas auseinandersetzten, loten ihre Installationen, Skulpturen und Aquarellzeichnungen das politische Potenzial von Kunst aus.
